Snow Camp Troop 144 has a snow camp every year and the destination is usually Paradise on Mt. Rainier situated at an elevation of 5500 feet. Tom Lentz, Scoutmaster of Troop 144, invited writer John Case and photographer Doug Wilson to camp with us. One of the things they experienced was the annual reading of Jack Loundon’s “To Build a Fire”, a tragic story about an unprepared Yukon prospector. This was the inspiration for the article they wrote and published in the December 2000 issue of Boys' Life, pages 28 -32.
